MICHAEL N. CASTLE
United States Representative
Michael N. Castle was first
elected to public office in Delaware 35 years ago and began
serving his first term in office the same year that The Committee
of 100 was incorporated. For nearly 31 of those years, Mike
has served the citizens of this State in elective office-for
ten years in the Delaware General Assembly, four years as
Lieutenant Governor, eight years as Governor, and approaching
nine years as Delaware's United States Representative.
Mike has brought a balance to
his tenure that, while uniquely his own, is reflective of
Delaware. This State tends to keep its balance-Democratic
Senate, Republican House; back and forth between Democratic
and Republican governors; currently Republican Attorney General
and Democratic Treasurer; at least one of each party of the
three representing us in Washington, D. C. Even more, while
there are strong partisan differences, Delaware lawmakers
usually come together when it is important for our State.
And while we have, from time to time, a few elected officials
who move toward one extreme or another, most who are reelected
are relatively moderate.
As Delaware's U.S. Representative,
Mike Castle has taken this reasoned moderation to D.C. He
has focused his efforts on finding pragmatic, bipartisan solutions
to some of the most pressing problems facing the country.
He is co-chairman of the Tuesday Group, a group of pragmatic
Republicans who meet to discuss policy issues, and he has
repeatedly helped to facilitate more moderate compromises
than opposing extremes were otherwise willing to accept.
Now, in these difficult times,
we need, more than ever, reasoned voices that provide intelligent,
experienced, and balanced leadership. Mike Castle will share
with us his thoughts about the attacks on America, the Country's
reaction, and the future impact on our economy as well as
our way of life.
