September 2008
Candidates for Lieutenant Governor Charlie Copeland & Matt Denn
Charles L. Copeland and Matthew P. Denn are more than 2008 candidates for Lieutenant Governor: they have both been hailed as future gubernatorial candidates. As a consequence, this race includes positioning for the future.
Adding spice to the race, in Delaware the candidates for Governor and Lieutenant Governor run separately and we can have (and have, had) a Governor and Lieutenant Governor from different parties.
Charlie Copeland says, "Sixteen years of one-party control in Dover has put Delaware on the wrong track and cost taxpayers a fortune. It's time for a new way. As your Lieutenant Governor, I'll use my real world business experience and commitment to reforming state government to get our state back on track. I will never look for a 'Republican' or 'Democrat' [sic] solution, but only work for what's right."
Matt Denn says, "We are going to ensure that Delaware is a place where every child can succeed, no matter where he or she may have started in life" and his focus on the cause of children will include improving our public schools, assuring health insurance for every child, ensuring stricter enforcement of Delaware's environmental laws, and improving services that our state offers children who face special challenges."
Charlie Copeland is President of Associates Graphic Services, having taken over the small family-owned printing company in 1994 and growing it into an industry leader. He was elected to the State Senate in 2002 and has led the fight to rein in State spending as well as make government more open, honest, and accountable.
After graduating from law school, Matt Denn worked with Delaware Volunteer Legal Services and in private practice before serving as Governor Ruth Ann Minner's chief legal counsel. In 2004 Matt was elected the State's Insurance Commissioner, turning the office into a strong advocate for Delaware consumers.
